About the fabrics we use

At Kristina Nordlöf, we are committed to using only natural and certified viscose fibers in our designs—not just for their beauty and quality, but because we believe fashion should be as responsible as it is stunning. Our garments are designed to be cherished, worn, and eventually repurposed, ensuring they remain valuable resources rather than disposable items.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose Fibers

With LENZING™ ECOVERO™, you get more than just a soft, luxurious, breathable fabric; you’re choosing responsibly sourced fibers with a reduced environmental footprint. Compared to traditional viscose, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers generate 50% fewer carbon emissions and use significantly less water, making them an ideal choice for those searching for low-impact fashion.

As the demand for sustainable fashion grows, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is leading the way with eco-friendly viscose fibers sourced from FSC® and PEFC™ certified forests. These fibers are derived from renewable wood sources and are produced through a closed-loop process that minimizes water and chemical use. They are biodegradable and compostable, supporting end-of-life sustainability.

Backed by EU Ecolabel certification and consistently recognized by organizations like Canopy for sustainable wood sourcing, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ ensures traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain and is a leading choice for the conscious consumer. European Flax

In the world of environmentally responsible fashion, European flax stands out as a renewable, biodegradable, and resource-efficient alternative to synthetic materials. Grown exclusively in Western Europe, it is cultivated without irrigation and with minimal fertilizers and pesticides, making it a fabric that supports biodiversity and reduces water consumption.

Certified by the European Flax® standard, this fiber ensures full traceability from field to fabric, promoting supply chain transparency—an essential factor in sustainable textile production. European flax also supports local farming communities and contributes to a circular economy by providing a durable and recyclable material that aligns with slow fashion values.

Naturally breathable, soft, and strong, European flax is fully biodegradable and compostable, ensuring minimal environmental impact at the end of its lifecycle. Its durability further enhances its sustainability, reducing the need for frequent replacements and promoting long-term use.

For those seeking a responsible fashion choice, European flax offers the perfect balance of sustainability, durability, and ethical sourcing. Opt for a fabric that embodies timeless elegance while minimizing environmental impact.

Flax fibre is characterised by circularity: 100% of the plant is valued.

Cotton

We use both Better Cotton and organic cotton in our design products.

Better Cotton, established by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) in 2005, is a global program designed to improve the sustainability of cotton farming. It promotes responsible agricultural practices that reduce the use of harmful chemicals, optimize water consumption, and support ethical labor conditions. While not organic, Better Cotton aims to make conventional cotton farming more resource-efficient and environmentally conscious.

Organic cotton, on the other hand, is cultivated without synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or toxic pesticides. Instead, it relies on natural pest control and soil enrichment techniques, contributing to healthier ecosystems and safer working conditions for farmers.

To ensure transparency and credibility, our organic cotton meets rigorous certification standards, including the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)—the leading certification for organic textiles. GOTS guarantees compliance with strict environmental and ethical criteria across the entire supply chain, from farm to finished fabric.

By choosing Better Cotton and organic cotton, we are committed to promoting more responsible cotton farming and supporting the transition toward a circular and sustainable textile industry.

This version improves clarity, reinforces transparency, and aligns with EU sustainability goals. Let me know if you’d like any refinements!

Silk

Silk is a natural protein fiber known for its luxurious texture, durability, and temperature-regulating properties. Its production is a slow and meticulous process that cannot be artificially accelerated, as it relies entirely on natural cycles. The labor-intensive methods involved—from harvesting cocoons to spinning and weaving the fibers—contribute to silk’s higher cost and exclusivity.

Silk is produced from the cocoons of the larvae of the silk moth, making it an animal-derived material and not a vegan textile. From a sustainability perspective, silk is a biodegradable and renewable fiber.

Silk’s exceptional qualities make it highly valued in fashion and textiles. It is breathable, moisture-wicking, and naturally regulates body temperature, keeping you warm in cooler climates and cool in warmer ones. Additionally, silk is gentle on the skin, making it an ideal choice for people with sensitive skin or allergies.

We embrace the principles of circularity, creating pieces that are made to last and made to return. That’s why we carefully avoid blends with synthetic fibers—these combinations make recycling nearly impossible and prevent fabrics from biodegrading, ultimately contributing to landfill waste. By choosing pure, natural materials, we ensure that every piece we create can be reused, recycled, or returned to nature.
